Abstract

A case of bilateral renal angiomyolipomas (AML) and right renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in a patient with tuberous sclerosis (TS) is reported. A 22-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for further investigation of bilateral renal masses. She had facial skin lesions consistent with adenoma sebaceum. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) demonstrated bilateral renal masses, of which right renal mass compressing inferior vena cava, and multiple hypervascular nodules in liver. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed multiple cortical and ependymal tubers, compatible with intracranial involvement of TS. Right radical nephrectomy was performed and histopathologic examination showed conventional type RCC in upper pole and multiple AML with AML involving regional lymph nodes. The patient is under clinical surveillance and remains asymptomatic 8 years later without evidence of disease aggravation.
